ABSTRACT

In this paper we propose a modification to the popular ERICA algorithm for controlling Available Bit Rate (ABR) traffic in Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) networks. The ERICA algorithm monitors the load of each link and advises the sources of the links about the rate at which to transmit. Designed to achieve eficiency, fairness, and control of queuing delays, the ERICA algorithm has proven to be a simple, eficient scheme. We show that we can achieve better results with a similar complexity by using a fuzzy rule base to determine some ERICA parameters.
