ABSTRACT

The field of telecommunications can be divided into two major segments: voice communications and data communications. The measurement process will often have a complementary control activity whereby commands are sent to the measurement device. The command activity is done remotely so it is usually called a telecommand. A telemetry system alone requires a simplex link. A telemetry and telecommand system requires some form of duplex system. The telemetry community has a long history of sending data in the original analog format. With the advent of computer-based data processing, digital data is generally considered more useful for signal processing. Hardware Systems, discusses the background techniques used in selecting components used in the hardware design. It has a certain bias toward traditional radio telemetry systems because they are so commonly found in many applications. The command and telemetry system will become just another user on a shared commercial link that may be carrying voice, video, and data.
