ABSTRACT
Advances in wireless communications have enabled access to the Internet for mobile users, but the Transport Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) protocol stack of the Internet, designed to be independent of the link layer technology, involves mechanisms that lead to poor performance when used for mobile networks. This chapter identifies some of the important issues of mobility over TCP/IP and outlines the major proposals for overcoming them.
