The three most significant power quality concerns for most customers are
• Voltage sags • Momentary interruptions • Sustained interruptions
Different customers are affected differently. Most residential customers are affected by sustained interruptions and momentary interruptions. For commercial and industrial customers, sags and momentaries are the most common problems. Each circuit is different, and each customer responds differently to power quality disturbances. These three power quality problems are caused by faults on the utility power system, with most of them on the distribution system. Faults can never be completely eliminated, but we have several ways to minimize the impact on customers.
