ABSTRACT

Digital images are discrete two-dimensional (2D) representations of real visual scenes, typically comprising an array of gray-level values that represent light intensity and color. Images are encountered in a wide variety of disciplines including art, human vision, astronomy, and industrial engineering applications (the focus of this book). Digital image processing describes operations carried out on digitized images. Common image processing operations include filtering, sampling, coding, feature extraction, pattern recognition, motion analysis, and coloring processes. This processing is generally accomplished electronically with advanced electronic hardware and computing software.
