ABSTRACT

In Chapter 2, we described the basics of the connectionless communication system, especially that of the TCP-IP system. MPLS executes IP forwarding as the initial transmission method, but if MPLS is “cut through,” then it operates based on a connection-oriented transmission system. In this chapter, we describe the ATM transmission system, which is one of the transport protocols after cutthrough in MPLS and is the most typical method of connection-oriented communications as well as its traffic-control technology and OAM (operation and maintenance) technology [1, 2].
