ABSTRACT
In classical optics, light rays travel in straight lines at a speed governed by the refractive index of the medium and in a direction dictated by Snell’s law of refraction. In a medium in which the index is not uniform, however, light rays travel in a curved path from areas of lower index toward areas of higher index.
