ABSTRACT
Shunt capacitor units are connected from phase to neutral or across the load. Series capacitors are connected in series in the circuit and hence carry the full line current. Therefore, the voltage across the shunt capacitor remains constant, and the drop across the series bank changes with load. It is this characteristic that produces an effect that is dependent on load and makes the series capacitor a valuable item in transmission and distribution line compensation.
