ABSTRACT

In an optically compensated zoom lens, all of the moving lens groups, move in unison, as if they were linked together on a common shaft. This is shown in Figure 34.1. It has the distinct advantage that no cam is required. However, such systems are generally longer than a comperable mechanically compensated system. Most important, the image plane moves slightly with zoom. An object of the designer is to make this movement less than the depth of focus.
