ABSTRACT

Rapid growth in power electronics technologies has made phenomenal contribution to the human race. The advent of power electronics has opened up new possibility and hopes in various fields ranging from household, commercial, and industrial applications. One of the valuable contributions has been in the field of electrical drives. In India, 75% of electrical power is used to drive the motors, either AC or DC. In the pulp and paper industry, 30%–35% of electrical motors employ variable-speed drives to drive AC or DC motors. Compared to other industries, the pulp and paper industry requires more numbers of electrical drives because of its process and system requirement.
