ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the concepts discussed in the preceding chapters of this book. The book examines the maritime heritage of the Indian Ocean and the Western Pacific, as well as analyzes the contemporary challenges confronting the global community in these regions of ever-increasing economic and geo-strategic significance. It explores that the aperture of one's analytical, geo-strategic lens is predicated upon the political, economic, and/or military environmental context of the historical time-frame under examination. The book emphasizes, it is critical to ensure the security of the lines of maritime transit through the international waters that traverse the Indian Ocean and the Western Pacific. It discusses that the global community is confronted with challenges posed by a variety of non-state actors, including; pirates, weapons and/or drug smugglers, human traffickers, illegal migrants, and illegal fishing. The book explains many of the policies of Iran that threaten the stability of Persian Gulf subregion.
