ABSTRACT

While show business has a reputation for loose morals and dirty dealings, there’s a healthy dose of fiction in that stereotype. In truth, the industry is chock full of truly ethical people who are dedicated to being their very best selves. And while the artistic universe might be indulgent in certain areas, it has its own set of unpardonable sins: a reputation for promiscuity, though not ideal, might not be nearly as damaging as a reputation for showing up late to the set. An understanding of professional protocols and conduct is a necessity in cultivating a long and healthy acting career. In this chapter, the authors respond to questions about: thank you cards and gifts, double-booking, turning down jobs, on-set etiquette for background and guest artists, waiting room politics, tipping a dresser, asking for accommodation, email protocols, contract negotiations, and many other topics.
