ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT: For the application of a rubber power transmission belt, the belt is reinforced with load bearing members. These operate under stress fields of tension and bending (around pulleys). This study is part of a project to help predict the fatigue life of carbon fibre cords reinforcing belts under local conditions of tension plus bending. There are two parts to the study: Part 1: FEA stress analysis of a cord in rubber under tension plus bending and Part 2: The fatigue to failure study of the same. The FE stress analysis has been completed for a 6 K carbon fibre rubber impregnated cord encased within rubber.
