ABSTRACT

The need for support for small enterprise owner/management in implementing current regulatory approaches to chemical risk management is evident. Published accounts show that despite harmonizing strategies at European levels, there remain divergent patterns of national support for occupational health and safety in different member states (Walters, 2002). Therefore no one single model of institutional support is likely to have widespread international application in relation to supporting chemical risk management in small firms. The aim of this chapter is to review the range of institutional support in the countries studied and consider its adequacy in underpinning the application of the regulatory strategies outlined previously.
