ABSTRACT

Aftercare workers are a special breed of people. Many have experienced significant losses in their lives and others have not yet embarked on that journey. Those who have worked through the tasks of grief often experience what I call “a deep and personal awakening.” Their awakening has left them with a desire to give back to others that which was learned as they moved through the desperate, lonely hours of bereavement. Either through personal experience or a deep desire to help others, aftercare workers are special. They come in many sizes and shapes, male and female, both young and not so young. They all share one common thread and that is the golden thread of compassion.
