ABSTRACT

Unlike hospice aftercare, funeral homes tend to organize aftercare programs that go beyond a few days or months after funeralization, but rather make provisions for years. According to the National Funeral Directors Association, a significant portion of those utilizing aftercare services tend to do so typically months to years after the death of a loved one. Aftercare programs that do not extend their provisions over a longer period of time may have limited accessibility for a significant portion of the bereaved who may not utilize services for months or years. Consequently, the aftercare programs that are more prolonged or long-term focused may be more useful and effective in meeting the needs of the bereaved.
