ABSTRACT

This chapter deals with some introductory comments about memory enhancement classes. Effective cognitive enhancement classes require participants to make new memories and exercise the brain's attentional centers. The alphabetizing activity simply involves having participants alphabetize lists of words, which is excellent for exercising attention. In the creative brainstorming activity the participants will generate as many possible uses for a common everyday object. Buzz is a very popular activity among participants, and it does an excellent job of exercising participants' attention abilities. The name generation activities require participants to generate as many names as possible from a certain category. Participants are given a color, and their task is to generate as many objects that can be that color. One of the most common and frustrating cognitive lapses that adults without cognitive impairment experience is the inability to "grab" words. Sudoku is a wonderfully fun and addictive cognitive game.
