ABSTRACT

Higher-functioning participants can get extra cognitive stimulation and the satisfaction of helping others by assisting the memory class instructor. Research has shown that people's self-efficacy for health-promoting behaviors predicts their overall physical activity, nutrition, stress management, and interpersonal relations. A newsletter is a great way to get a number of people involved, even residents who are not interested in doing memory classes but might want to help with writing articles or doing the necessary computer and graphics work. One way to increase self-efficacy is to provide people with opportunities to have successful experiences. People will experience an increase in their belief that they can do a certain behavior if they are able to do it once or twice. The lack of transportation is another common external barrier that prevents many people from doing the things that could improve their health and overall quality of life.
