ABSTRACT

Dr. Deming has proven that if industry wants to produce a quality product, part of the process to do so depends on its ability to obtain quality raw materials. In order to accomplish a guaranteed quality product, raw materials cannot be purchased by low bid competition. In most instances the low bidder has to cut back on some aspect of the product, either in the product itself or in its delivery. Deming advocates replacing low bid competition with the development of long-term in-depth relationships with primary suppliers. This creates a positive relationship between the supplier and buyer which then equates into wanting to deliver quality material. If the raw material is less than quality, there is a basis for discussion that opens the way to understandings and upgrading the raw material to a quality level.
