ABSTRACT
Byssinosis is an occupational disease. A simple sentence, really, a straightforward statement of fact. Yet, hidden within this statement lies a fifty-year history of struggle to have industry and science in the United States utter these words, acknowledge their truth. We ask in this book what this struggle was about and why it was so protracted. What took so long?
