ABSTRACT

The purpose of this practice is to help children develop the skill of visual memory; to help develop a greater awareness of size and form relationships; to increase children’s speed in visual recognition; to increase children’s span in visual form recognition; to improve their visual memory by more adequate retention of a visual image. Visual Memory Training is a method of presenting these fundamental concepts to the child in a new, quick, understandable manner. The child develops the skill of visual recognition, but more important, he learns to internalize the experiences and relate them to something real and useful—to himself. This program for Practice in Visual Memory cannot be considered as something special or separate from the daily classroom schedule. To follow the developmental sequence of the children, this section of the readiness program begins on the low tactile-kinesthetic level and gradually approaches the ultimate in learning—the visual.
