ABSTRACT

Accurate scoring of the test battery is essential if reliable and valid results are to be obtained. Scorers should follow scoring directions precisely and work with utmost accuracy. Extra care should be taken to assure that transcription errors are not made when scores are transferred to the Summary of Scores box of the battery and that addition of the scores there is accomplished without error. Experience in scoring of tests similar to the Clymer-Barrett Pre-reading Battery suggests that scoring time can be reduced and accuracy increased if they are scored test-by-test rather than booklet-by-booklet. The Prereading Rating Scale is included in the battery as a means of drawing the teacher’s attention to a number of aspects of a child’s behavior and development which appear to be significantly related to his success in prereading and early reading experiences. A Class Record Sheet has been provided for summarizing battery scores for the entire class.
