ABSTRACT

All people view important life events from their own frame of reference. Values are the deepest beliefs and sentiments to which people subscribe. A value is a belief, mission, or philosophy that is meaningful. Whether people are consciously aware of them or not, every individual has a core set of personal values. Values can range from the commonplace, such as the belief in hard work and punctuality, to the more psychological, such as self-reliance, concern for others, and harmony of purpose. Whatever one’s values, when people take them to heart and implement them in the smallest details of their lives, great accomplishments and success are sure to follow. In alphabetical order, these are some of the values to which was exposed growing up in a funeral home: accessibility, accountability, adaptability, challenge, commitment, concern, confidentiality, discipline, empowerment, goodness, hope, leadership, nurturing, organization, performance, punctuality, satisfying others, and teamwork.
