For reasons that might make an interesting study, audience analysis seems to be the most thoroughly schematized and even technologized of the rhetorical touchstones in technical communication. We suspect that it is the development of formal, detailed schema for analysis that has sustained the dominance of audience in technicalcommunication practice.
