ABSTRACT

Most workers with communication tasks will engage in editing. As Writing: A Ticket to Work . . .—a report providing data from a survey of industry leaders representing companies employing almost eight million workers-notes, two-thirds of employees in North America have some writing responsibility (College Board, 2004). Being expected to write means that writing tasks are part of a job description. All employees perform writing at work and are judged and sometimes reviewed on the effectiveness of their writing. Editing is a part of all communication tasks-from quickly polishing an e-mail before sending it to a team or a supervisor to thoroughly reviewing a longer document before delivering it for printing.
