ABSTRACT

A DNA analysis done on members of Alex’s family following his death revealed a 99 percent probability that Curtis had the defective gene that causes x-linked lymphoproliferative disease (Duncan Syndrome). The results of that analysis were not available until after Curtis was hospitalized in May of 1990. Our mourning for Alex became protracted and complicated with the possibility that Curtis might not survive the lymphomatoid granulomatosis (a rare affliction associated with x-linked lymphoproliferative syndrome) that was essentially overgrowing his lungs.
