ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book provides readers the opportunity to read the recorded narratives of several oncology healthcare professionals’ without any interjection of formal analysis and discover on their own which ones are relevant to their everyday lives. It looks at the possible reasoning and motivations behind oncology healthcare professional’s actions in treating cancer patients. By integrating the death-related experiences of oncology healthcare professionals within the theoretical framework of symbolic interactionism readers can reflect on their experiences in a more comprehensive manner. The book focuses on how the narratives of the oncology healthcare professionals and associated theoretical concepts relate to the reader’s own life experiences. Due to the sensitive nature of subject matter, and promise of confidentiality, people’s names and places of work have been changed.
