ABSTRACT

There are several books on the market describing what death is like. They make grim reading. None of them spares you any of the gruesome details. Breathlessness is breathlessly described. Nausea is explained ad nauseam. Pain and convulsions are sketched in agonizing detail. Every little bit, and then some. These books are the roller-coaster rides of death and dying. You open the book, strap yourself in, read the first chapter, brace yourself and then, weeeeee—chariot ride through a set of anatomical images that make the Marquis de Sade look like he needs assertiveness training.
