Introducing the Array of Actors
Chapter 1 introduces the practice of packing a bag and the connections to collective forms of movement within global mobilities. Packing is indicative of how tourists collectively move with an array of human and nonhuman actors. By situating movements within a collective global network of mobilities, the gap between an individual’s everyday practices and larger scales of action is brought into frame. The book’s focus on idealised and imagined tourism experiences in Iceland and Nepal is outlined, in addition to the emphasis on communal atmospheres within hostelling accommodation, which highlight the convergence of discourses on tourism, consumption, and mobile practices.
