Everyday Material Practices of Tourists

ByKaya Barry

Chapter 2 connects packing and other material practices of tourists to the formation of mobile experiences, which is in line with the current push to acknowledge the value of material practices across many disciplines. Interviews and photographs illustrate how materials are encountered during packing and the potential for collaborative experiences to arise. The chapter concludes by suggesting how materiality allows us to think and practice alongside a range of human and nonhuman movements, where action is no longer tied to the traditional boundaries of individual experiences, but rather encourages new and collaborative experiences of mobility.
