ABSTRACT

Chapter 3 focuses on how tourists negotiate spatiality through the packing process, forging new techniques of aligning in mobile and turbulent encounters. Discussions of spatiality are positioned within dormitory-style hostelling accommodation and the communal and social atmospheres that are fostered. Tracking the spatial relationships that are mobilised in the packing process, photographs and interviews demonstrate how tourists devise approaches and strategies for packing and organising themselves and belongings within communal spaces, which contribute to formulaic and attentive spatial practices.
