ABSTRACT

246The separation of ethanol-water mixture was carried out by using Pervaporation membrane separation process over a full range of compositions at temperatures varying from 45 to 75°C, using polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) dense membrane. In this study a mathematical model has been developed and it is able to describe the behavior of Pervaporation process. The basic model equations are developed for one pass Pervaporation system and complete mixing model. The given model is based on extension of Flory-Huggins thermodynamics and is applied to the Pervaporation membrane separation of full range of ethanol/water (azeotropic mixture) mixture through PVA membrane. The experimental data were compared with model data. The presented data can be extended for study of mathematical modeling of Pervaporation for other binary systems.
