ABSTRACT

This chapter examines the different ways supervisors engage with technology integration as a vehicle for enhancing efficiency in communication and, more important, in developing agency. Technology integration as part of supervision offers a tool to enhance both teaching and professional decision-making. Historically, technology integration within educational spheres served to transmit data through relatively cost-effective means. Electronic formats also allow for more frequent periodic and informal reviews of teaching episodes. Advances from earlier times expanded participation. Regardless of the tool used, training and comfort levels must be considered when infusing electronic formats into supervisory and mentoring practices. Teacher supervisors are typically identified because they have experience teaching. Technology infusion among groups of educators is a way to increase dialogue between supervisors and novice teachers. Opportunities for greater reflection may be strengthened when mentors facilitate reflection and thoughtful consideration of teaching.
