ABSTRACT

This chapter helps us to gain an understanding of lean management and Kaizen events. The 4 P's of the lean management involves philosophy, process, people and partners, and problem solving. People and partners are integral components of the lean culture. Lean is not a process that is based on top-down decisions; its success depends on engaging employees at all levels in the lean decision-making process and developing their skills to enhance their contribution to working lean. A commitment to problem solving is directly tied in with a company developing and engaging its people. Problem-solving efforts have to permeate the entire organization, from top to bottom. One of the important aspects of lean management culture is communication of the successes with all employees. A lean culture manifests a company's lean management philosophy of commitment to incrementally improving its functions to provide value to its customers.
