ABSTRACT

This chapter helps us to gain an understanding of the estimating system, estimating maintenance jobs, estimating installation jobs, and interfacing the estimating system with job cost management. A lot of responsibility lies on the shoulders of estimators. The estimates that they generate provide the foundation for establishing project budgets, which project managers will use to develop production schedules based on the projected material costs and labor hours. The estimating process includes a thorough site analysis alongside the job specifications, which leads to a comprehensive estimate of material and labor cost projections. The estimator assesses the site's landscape status in terms of overall conditions, topography, drainage, and soil conditions as well as the condition of the turf, shrub and seasonal color beds, and trees to determine the amount and type of work needed. Many computerized estimating programs are available to the landscape industry. An estimating system increases the efficiency of generating estimates and the accuracy of those estimates.
