ABSTRACT

This chapter examines the evolving meanings attached to the term “cyber intelligence.” The authors first distinguish between data, information, and intelligence. They then argue that the development of cyber intelligence as a discipline of practice has followed three key phases: the data age, the information age, and the age of actionable intelligence. Each of these phases is characterized by a specific cybersecurity posture and approach to the intelligence cycle and related practices. The need to achieve integration is the hallmark of the age of cyber intelligence.
