ABSTRACT
This chapter outlines the undergraduate research environment and where music fits into it, focusing on the benefits of reframing some of the excellent creative work already being done in music. Within that context ideas are shared as to the importance of undergraduate research, desired learning outcomes, how knowledge and art are created, and how to get the most out of this book. Students will begin to understand how their learning can be linked to the discovery of knowledge, while they become more engaged in the process. This interactive pedagogy is much more interesting than traditional classroom lecture-style learning.
