ABSTRACT

Included in the CUR definition of undergraduate research is the phrase “contribution to the discipline.”  Like faculty research, this implies disseminating the work.  There are many opportunities for students to present, publish, or show their work, and this chapter will provide a guide for students and faculty alike as to the various venues, conferences, symposia, and journals available to students.  This chapter provides a step-by-step guide to writing abstracts for conference presentations, as a means of demonstrating in a succinct way that the research responds to a problem, need, or question in the topic area and why the findings are significant. It will also provide guidance for students and faculty to increase the number of such opportunities on their campuses and in their states.
