ABSTRACT

Modes of Pleasure is a unique puppet play developed in the fertile experimental atmosphere of alternative theatres of {dottedI}stanbul, made possible through a collaboration between a variety of artists, including a puppet-maker, a musician, performers, and digital artists from Koff Animation. It was imagined and created by female artists as a story about five women living in the same apartment building in urban Turkey, probably {dottedI}stanbul. On nights of the full moon, these seemingly domesticated female characters separately perform fringe sexual desires that create their own rhythms. Eventually these rhythms merge into a collective music that resonates throughout the building. The play pokes fun at gender-based cultural hypocrisy in Turkey by using the opportunities only puppetry provides.
