ABSTRACT
Drawing extensively from a wide range of educational writers and research, Chapter 1 explains why our current teaching practices may be unsustainable, and outlines a different way forward: Powerful Pedagogy. This chapter explains how Powerful Pedagogy allows us to deliver more powerful instruction, empowers teachers as professionals, and elevates teaching as a profession in possession of ‘powerful knowledge.’ It provides a rationale, framework and robust justification for any teacher wishing to re-professionalise teaching.
