ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses how to prepare for and implements the go live plan in order to achieve the objectives defined. We use the term "go live" to indicate the point in time at which the code, development software, and corresponding processes are moved into a live production environment. Typically, that is a "point of no return" where the previous production environment is overwritten or taken down and the new environment is the only thing users can access. Sometimes this is almost invisible to end users, such as when software is updated, but most of the changes are behind the scenes. Other times, such as when we deploy a completely revised (or new) EHR, the change will be dramatic. How we handle the go live activities will dictate the overall success of the project, so these final steps are crucial to get right.
