ABSTRACT

It is predicted that by the year 2000, one person out of every fourteen in the United States will be a woman over the age of sixty-five [1]. Furthermore, many older women in 1989 lived alone (6.9 million representing 41% of older women) [2]. Although women are living longer today than they once did, they may not enjoy an increased quality of life [3]. This chapter is about the use of themes in reminiscence groups comprised of women not living in institutions and expands current knowledge about themes in reminiscence group work, a little discussed facet of group work with older persons.
