ABSTRACT

The biographical approach has been used to conceptualize the life-span of the individual in general [1, 2] and more specifically after the experience of significant life events [3, 4]. Life experiences often serve as life markers [5] and can further be related to broader individual life themes [6, 7]. The purpose of this study was to explore the relationship of life events, life themes, personality, and intelligence in a sample of older individuals. The interaction of life experiences, life themes, personality, and intelligence is thought to build life patterns in the retrospective construction of the life course.
