ABSTRACT

There were two Resolutions adopted at the 1860 Glasgow Conference which have a bearing on the development of the present Rule. They were: That when the amount of expenses is less than the value of the property finally saved, the contributing values of ship, freight and cargo, ought to be their values to the owners of them respectively, at the termination of the adventure. Resolution concerned the case of general average expenses in excess of the value of the property saved, but it was withdrawn at the 1864 York Conference and has not subsequently featured in the text of the York-Antwerp Rules. A number of minor changes were made at the Stockholm Conference, the only one of any significance being the addition of the words "if not already included" after the reference to adding back the amount made good as general average for property sacrificed.
