ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses how gender is beyond biological difference – rather it is implicated in relations of power which intersects with race and racisms. Patriarchy is not a separate moment within history but it is historically constituted by other systems of oppression, therefore it cannot be fully grasped without contextualizing it within histories of colonialism, capitalism and Western imperialism. Postcolonial and black feminisms adopt a critical lens while investigating the interrelation of race, class, and gender within the broader scope of imperialism and global capitalism.
