ABSTRACT

This chapter suggests that it is more objective to draw from the operator himself the proof of his capacity to treat and to decode the information and to carry out an efficient operating strategy. In order to improve the man-machine relationship, the adaptive ability of the operator on the particular task determines the adjustment required. Taxonomic analysis suggests auto-adaptation of the operator in relation to the variable data-processing within the system provided that the operator has been trained to analyse his task, and afterwards, his performance. Offensive or defensive military systems are constituted as semi-automatized "biodynamical huge sets" and their efficiency relies on the quality of the "operator-machine" dynamic interaction in precise environment conditions. It is necessary to test the behavioural criteria (psychometric performances, psychomotor reactions, attention, memory) by appropriate biological predictors to detect the origin or the mechanisms of the fatigue or stress of the operator.
