ABSTRACT

The more cyclical movements become international, the more each country has to take into account not only its own fluctuations but those of its neighbours as well. An understanding of the nature and significance of the medium-term policy programme of the eec requires some knowledge of the evolution of French and German economic policy. The quantitative projections were carried out separately from the work of the mtp Committee by the Study Group attached and reporting to the Commission. A great gulf exists between French and German attitudes to interest groups. Although an Annexe to the Draft Programme is devoted to regional policy, there is little to say about this as yet in relation to the work of the mtp Committee. The Working Group on structural policy is currently examining in detail the problems of three industries: agriculture, shipbuilding and electronics. German and French attitudes to the concentration of firms to achieve economies of scale have differed widely.
