ABSTRACT

This chapter overviews that the key destinations of the Next Curve of health care are ACCESS, CHOICE, and VALUE and provides the roadmap to industry transformation by few goals that focus on fixing the root causes of industry dysfunction. Medicare has been restructured to ensure its fiscal sustainability as the senior population continues to grow. In the Next Curve, individuals and families, regardless of circumstances, have affordable access to health care. The market has been made more equitable by eliminating the tax exclusion for employer-sponsored health plans, while at the same time giving employees more options for their health coverage. In the Next Curve, informed consumers have the ability to make rational choices among comparable options when it comes to their health insurance and health care providers. The future-state destinations frame the priorities for what must be accomplished to achieve true industry change.
