ABSTRACT

The narratives of the films of surrealistic violence focus on women: their social roles, power and personal ambition. Women are excluded from combat or are oppressed by the social institutions controlled by men. The story of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon involves the passion of a headstrong young beauty to be a warrior woman and the four people who strive to win her allegiance or affection. The most complex relationships that the protagonist has are with the other women. The surrealistic battles replace blood and death with running in air and gliding, somersaulting and cartwheeling.
