ABSTRACT

Personal pronouns - los pronombres personales — are words which can take the place of a noun. Subject pronouns – los pronombres sujeto – as their name indicates, are pronouns that stand for the subject of a sentence. In Spanish there is a neuter subject pronoun, ello, which can be used to refer to an idea rather than a thing. In Spanish, subject pronouns are rarely used in everyday conversation. In English, subject pronouns show who or what the subject of the verb is referring to, but in Spanish the verb endings provide this information, so the pronoun is not necessary: Tengodos hermanos. Indirect object pronouns – los pronombres de objeto indirecto – are pronouns that stand for the indirect object, i.e. the person or object that benefits from an action or receives something as a result of it.
